NOTICE

A PhD student studying at Goldsmiths, University of London, is looking to meet and interview Irish Protestants and their families who left the republic after independence.
The student is interested in finding out about their life in the 26 counties, reasons for migrating, and experience of living in England.
Initially the interviews would be confidential and will be used for a research thesis but will eventually be archived at the British Library.

Coláiste na nGael

Britain's Irish language network

WELCOME to the website for people in Britain interested in learning Irish or in meeting people who speak Irish.

Coláiste na nGael is part of a very lively Irish language scene in Britain and Europe. Coláiste na nGael and its allies run Irish language events, which include classes, all over Britain. This year we are arranging one and two-day events in Essex, Leicestershire and Somerset.

We are pleased to be able to bring you a list of Irish Language Classes which take place in locations through out Britain.

Good News: We are now on Facebook and Wikipedia.

26th/27th October 2013

Coláiste na nGael Gathering in Gloucester. This will be a memorial weekend for Richard Schofield, our former colleague, who died suddenly in March. See our Events page for Application form and further details.

2013 Bliain na Gaeilge

The Gaelic League was founded in 1893. This organisation had a crucial role in creating the Irish state, and promoting Ireland's rich culture. Every ten years, there is a nationwide celebration of our native language. 2013 is Bliain na Gaeilge. During 2013 there will be a range of Irish language activities across Britain and Europe, and we also look forward to a state visit by our president.

Our showpiece event takes place at Aylesford in Kent, starting on 28th June 2013. It will be a three-day residential immersion course at Aylesford Priory. It will be an excellent opportunity to improve our spoken Irish.
See our events page for detailsof this and our other planned activities.

Gaeilge 2016 - Ar aghaidh linn!

At Easter 2011, Colaiste na nGael launched 'Gaeilge 2016'. This is a five-year programme of events to support and encourage the greater use of Irish in Britain. At present, people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds are studying Irish. We invite all people to commit to learning Irish so that five years from now, they will have achieved a high proficiency in Irish. Irish is a beautiful language. Commit to Irish! Commit to 'Gaeilge 2016!'.
