About us and the Irish language in Britain
Coláiste na nGael and its allies run Irish language classes all
over Britain. We are a non-political and non-religious organisation.
We are also a non-profit making organisation. Our newsletter is
called Iris na Gaeilge. It
is full of information about events
taking place around Britain.
Coláiste na nGael also organises events in Europe. We have
held residential language colleges in Berlin, the Netherlands, the
Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, Breizh (Brittany) and Benalmádena,
Spain.
Coláiste na nGael enjoys the kind support of the Irish Embassy
in London, and the British Association for Irish Studies.
We have received as guests Éamonn Ó Cuiv, Minister for the Gaeltacht,
Liam Ó Cuinneagáin of Oideas Gael, and Éamonn Ó Dónaill of Gaelchultúr.
Our membership includes councillors, school principals, mayors
and other influential people. We campaigned to have Irish admitted
as a working language of the European Union. Our members teach
Irish in British schools and do the very best to raise the profile
of Irish at every occasion.
